How to prepare for your fence installation with D-Fence Company

A fence is the best way to designate the boundaries of your property.  A fence also allows you to make your yard feel like a natural extension of your home, sometimes providing you with much-needed privacy, security or a fashionable way to show off your landscaping. We thank you for choosing D-Fence Company and would like to provide you with some helpful tips to prepare for your fence project.

TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR YARD FOR FENCE INSTALLATION/REPAIR

Review your fence project estimate

Please review your project estimate to be sure the layout and material appear to be correct. We know you are not fence experts however, if you see one gate and you wanted two, please call us. If the drawing shows a straight line but you want a panel at an angle, don’t be afraid to call us to be sure we are both on the same page. If you would like to have your fence painted or stained prior to install, D-Fence company offers this service as well. Give us a call for an estimate!

Call Dig Safe at 811

We ask all of our customers to please call Dig Safe. We always suggest you do this as soon as you decide to move forward with the project. D-Fence is not responsible for any underground unmarked lines. Dig Safe is a free service, funded entirely by its member utility companies. Dig Safe® notifies participating utility companies of your plans to dig. In turn, these utilities respond to mark out the location of their underground facilities.  Call 811 to avoid utility service disruption to an entire neighborhood, harm to you and those around you, as well as fines and repair costs.

Mark Your Property Line Prior to Fence Installation

Marking your property line is the first essential step and hopefully something you already did prior to your estimate. When building a fence, you need to know EXACTLY where your property line lies.  Grab your blueprints, find your plot or go to your local authority and get a set of plans if you don’t have access to them. Be sure to check to see if you have an easement in place that prevents you from installing a fence on that particular location. You can be forced to tear down a fence and re-install it for even a two-inch infraction. Please note that D-Fence is not responsible for a fence that was placed outside of the customers property lines.

Make Nice with the Neighbors Prior to Fence Installation

After you mark your property line, we always recommend talking to your neighbors to make sure they won’t be bothered by either the construction process or by the finished product. We have run into instances where a customer asks us to tear down a fence that they thought was theirs and it was actually their neighbors. If you are not 100% certain if an existing fence is yours, please speak with your neighbors, as D-Fence company is not responsible for the take down of a fence that is not yours. Some developments will mandate a certain style, fencing materials and color of fence, so keep this in mind if it applies to you. The big lesson here is that if you want to keep the peace, it’s a good idea to let folks know your plans.

Remove All Obstacles for Fence Installation

Walk your fence line before installation and look for bushes, large rocks, tree stumps, and anything on the ground that stand between you and installing your fence. We ask that you or a professional clear these obstacles prior to installation. If the fence line is not cleared prior to installation, customers may be subject to additional charges for any clearing that D-Fence Company is required to do.
